There is silence only,
along with the beat of my heart.
But exactly how long will this silence last?
Is this the sound of death approaching?
Am I certain to hear a knock on my door?
Am I to recognize finality, or it me?
Are we to be formally introduced?
The silence continues, still as I wait.
Within the shadows, I see an object.
It shines with all the grace of the sun.
I reach out to this object.
But now it seems farther away,
but with more brilliance.
The closer I move toward it,
the farther it seems from me.
But what if I did the opposite and walked away?
Would I get closer to this object of light?
I discover no matter which way I travel,
this object is running from me.
It is out of sight as the silence continues.
But wait! One... one thing is missing.
The beat of my heart...
