"Jim's mentor"
Interview by Julie Smith

My interview with Jim Morrison went as expected because it was very interesting and informative. I went over to his house on Friday April 7, 2000 at 8:45 am. His back door to his house was wide-open and he waved for me to come in. Jim was sitting at the table eating breakfast. Three eggs, Canadian bacon, toast, and a tall glass of milk. He offered me something to eat but I had already eaten a stack of pancakes earlier at MAMA DEATHS' restaurant.
After Jim finished his breakfast, he asked me, while grounding his own coffee beans, if I wanted some coffee. I replied by saying yes and while he poured the water into the coffee maker, he revealed the reason he finally let me have this interview.
Jim said that it was about time that he given some of the credit of his success to his, “mentor”. He said that this “mentor” has been is his favorite educator and lately has grown to be a valuable friend. Jim then informed me that his “little buddy” is the next room and asked me if I wanted to meet her. Of course, I said yes.
Jim then went into the adjoining room and came back with a yellow parakeet perched on his index finger. Jim then sat down at the table across from me and put the parakeet on top of his head. The parakeet swayed back and forth and whistled “Roll out the barrel” while Jim sang along. They then continued the performance with a few other recognizable melodies before Jim said, “It is my pleasure to introduce to you my mentor, my little buddy, Shea".

Jim & his mentor, Shea.
Photo was taken durring this interview.
Jim continued telling me the stories on how Shea taught him how to write songs. That first you must think of a theme for the melody. Then construct relative changes within the song and finally pulling it all together with vocalized emotion.
Shea also taught Jim that words are very important to the to allow people who cannot hear the melody to still enjoy the songs flavor.

Jim said that in one day that the two of them wrote five of Rapid Fire’s best songs, “Number One Lick”, “Lonely World”, “No More”, “Try” and “Love Talk”.

He also said in that same day Shea began giving him vocal lessons.
Jim explained that Shea would sing a few notes and then Jim would copy her until he got it right. After a few weeks training, Shea’s vocal lessons became more difficult. The lessons included signing along with musical artist like; ACDC, OZZY, King Diamond, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, and Johnny Cash.
Jim then informed me that Shea was the first one to say that he was the "ROCK" in rock-n-roll.
Jim continued to inform me that from early on Shea even taught him to dance. Also, that she is to this day his choreographer. Jim said, “At that time I did not even know how to spell choreography”.
Jim then put his index finger up to his forehead and the yellow parakeet climbed onto his finger. Jim then asked me if they could show me a trick. I said yes and so Jim put the Shea in his mouth and swallowed her. Instantly I felt Shea on top of my head! I was impressed! However, their magic act continued with a most unusual delusion.
Jim stuck his tongue out and made a bird noise like he was talking to Shea. Shea few to and landed on Jim’s protruding tongue. They both seem to be transfixed looking into one another’s eyes. After a few seconds of doing this, Shea began to float!
Shea floated up to the kitchen ceiling and then back down into Jim’s open hand. This startled me so that I ran out of Jim’s house cutting the interview short.
I have already called Jim and apologized and he said that I could continue the interview at a latter date.
So, that is my first interview with Jim Morrison formal singer of DEUCE-EX and RAPIDFIRE. I plan to have my next interview with Jim when he gets back from Barbados.
