Red Leaf

This picture was taken on 8/31/83

At this show, Randy on guitar and Blake on drums provided a masterful Heavy Metal backdrop for the Red Leaf's appearance. Jim dresses up with a red leaf on his face to celebrate his Native American heritage.
The trio preformed over thirty different songs that they made up as they went along. Songs later dubbed Coke Caine Mountain, All Night Long and Across the Sky. Even thought they had never preformed these songs ever before, the crowd seem to now all the words. And when Jim sang the last song of the night, the song latter named Try, it dawned on me that the members of the band were not only ones responsible for the artistry but also the drunken crowd. I was amazed when it became obvious that crowd had just as much to do with the creation of the melody and lyrics as the band did. To this day I have never seen anything like it!
This show took place a a tavern called Danny's. It is the same tavern Jim use to go to on Tuesdays. On Tuesday Danny's had a drink special, 10¢ for a tap of beer. Jim would put down a dollar and get ten taps of beer. Then after drinking some of them he would scream alongside with the jukebox.
The highlight of the evening was when Stephen Tollfree, a guest vocalist, sang his eloquently written, Crystal Ball.
Mr Tolfree also made up a song, on the spot, latter called, Give Me Your Money.
